Products and systems

We invest in novel technology to solve industry problems and reduce development risk.

Patents and unique know-how lie at the heart of many distinctive products and systems, and a rich family of intellectual property is available to trigger innovative development. We investigate third-party patents and publications to establish benchmarks and to seek opportunities for differentiation.

Short range radar technology

A deep understanding of electromagnetic propagation underlies our patent portfolio in communications and positioning systems, radar and optical sensing. This has allowed us to develop a platform of short-range radar solutions, with uses in Arctic offshore exploration, military test and evaluation, industrial fluid level sensing, through-wall security surveillance and in automotive anti-collision sensors, to name just a few. The key feature across our radar platform is the ability of a small, integrated sensor to track multiple targets in three dimensions, through a range of media.

Power Assist

The operation of complex control systems can be a challenge for even the most accomplished user. Using sophisticated motor assistance it is possible to replicate the mode of operation, yet simplify the interaction with a range of domestic and industrial appliances, such as power tools, lawn mowers and window controls.

Sensorless electric motor control

Long and varied experience in machinery design has yielded novel approaches to the design, and to the cost reduction of electric motor systems and compact electromechanical devices. More

Ultrawideband location systems

Asset tracking systems require the ability to locate radio-frequency tagging devices, without suffering from multipath effects or requiring an expensive synchronized tag. By making the base stations sensitive to the direction of an ultrawideband tag transmitter, positions can be measured robustly with low-cost tags. Additional data is transferred from tag to base station, providing a highly flexible location and monitoring function.

Engine emissions and efficiency improvement

The need for increasing engine efficiency and reducing exhaust emissions has driven the development of unique diesel control solutions. More

We also have originated special sensing and imaging techniques for numerous defence and security applications, where precise information has a direct bearing on operational success. To assist operators working in high-stress environments, our Advanced Decision Support processes offer improved performance and reduced risks.

Protecting and exploiting intellectual property have critical competitive significance. The commercial consequences are always addressed during our design and development work.
